Paying attention to myself! For most trainers, focusing on others all day every day leads us to forget about ourselves. I learnt that if i am not healthy and on top of my game then i’m no good to anyone. I’ve gone through more personal development during these 20 weeks and during this year than i’ve ever done in the last 10 years prior to today. I don’t think it’s an accident that i find myself in this position, and it’s certainly become more than just looking good to others or fitting into a certain image box – i am striving for positivity all the time, every day, and looking for new ways to improve. All of these things add up to me feeling fantastic about the world i’m living in and the space i find myself. I love my work, i love how strong my body has become and how much more fine tuned i can make it. This is definitely just the beginning! |
making the biggest health discovery of my life is priceless |

There are so many to list, but here’s my favourites … I’ve gained a positive attitude to life, my future and exercise. I have enjoyed the longest ever period of my life where I have not put on weight and weight has not been my one focus! I now have a new confidence not only with my body but my health, not having to rely or needing medication which cements the realisation that health is driven by fitness and that is my biggest strength! |

My tummy is flat! and it doesn’t make me cry any more
increase in strength and overall fitness. More able to do more things rather than just one thing kinda OK.
Achieving a level of fitness I didn’t know I could have, and finding out just how much fun fitness can be! But best of all was being able to do a 3-minute bridge (plank)! From struggling to do 30 seconds and then a minute, that was awesome.
My endurance in the running, didn’t think this old lady could really do it
Feeling better and fitter, losing size and some weight
My strength has increased a lot. And i have discovered and become addicted to Zumba in the last 6 weeks.
Being able to do a pull up and doing some crazy outdoor events
A huge improvement in fitness
To make going to the gym part of my daily routine
Implementation of a regular exercise programme. The knowledge of areas to work on. The understanding of food portion sizes.
Being finially under the 100kg mark and being the strongest and fitest I’ve been in 20yrs…
Increase in fitness. Change in diet for the better. Reacquainted myself with a good fitness regime.
Balance in my life, weight loss
I have overcome my fear of swimming freestyle, I would panic and think I couldn’t breath but I now can swim 40 lengths freestyle without getting a panic attack.
Running 21 k and losing 6 kgs
Running 10km in the SBS Marathon
I have become fitter, i walk every day and i go to gym 3 times a week Im feeling good and hopefull have lost a bit of weight not my goal but i will get there I havent run in years due to knoee injury and now can run not far but i can do it lol
Apart from loosing size, I have learnt to run
learning to swim. stop obsessing over the scales.confidence!
moving forward
Changing my body shape and increasing my strength
I have the mind power to achieve my goals, I have found myself again, I have really pushed myself outside my comfortzone, I have tried and achieved things that I thought I couldn’t and I have. I near drowned when I was 9 and I got back into the water again for the first time in years, I went aqua Jogging on numerous times and hydroslided, I have even started to learn to swim again, I climbed Barnett Part Hill and did the Rapaki Track. I have had major injuries lower limb and a co-ordination problem from birth and I have regained my left, right brain function and have worked hard at simple tasks as climbing stairs, I can now even run short distances. I had no self confidence going into this competition and wanted to quit the week before the start I now am not worried about what anyone else thinks about how I look or what I can or can’t do physically, I can hold my head up high and say look at what you can achieve if you only believe in your own ability.
To not have given up, to have lost some weight and to get up enough fitness to do some awesome walks around Canterbury and to get back on a bike.
Changing my eating habits. Not going back for seconds. In the main exercising more, improving fitness and loseing some weight!
I am in control of my eating and I know how to push myself when excersizing
The ability to stay committed to something was great for me, even though I had some ups and downs along the way, it was all about learning to get back on track and not make the day even worse by eating takeaways for dinner just becuase you already had a bad day and had two chocolate bars at lunch! The changes that I made in the way I look and feel are amazing and I can’t believe that I can fit size 12 clothing again. The last time I was this size was over 7 years ago and it was only for about 6 months!
The dramatic change in my lifestyle now as compared to the previous six months from virtually no physical exercise to now training and exercising six days a week. The amount of energy I have now (I can run!), the confidence, motivation and determination which I thought I would never have or get. Losing not only fat but centimetres (around 10kg and 34cm so far); belief in myself and getting off my medication for depression. I can fit into a Size 14/16 whereas before I was looking at sizes 18/20 that has been a big plus for me, as now I feel great in my clothes now.
beating jeremy in beep test
I AM MORE CONFIDENT IN MYSELF AS A PERSON
Working out around hip issues and looking after a family, marketing my husband’s business and looking after a 16 year Japanese student without feeling too tired! Wouldn’t have been capable of doing this July last year (before 1st challenge!)
The most significant achievement has been dramatically reducing my stress levels. By increasing my fitness, strength and consuming healthier food, I am managing my stress levels far better. I now usually sleep through the night, rather than having broken and restless sleeps. I have enjoyed the boxing sessions, to punch out my stress and tension, and have a better more balanced attitude towards my life, my responsibilities and my achievements. I can also now run, which I have not done for over ten years. Post child-birth I have been unable to run, but through strengthening muscles, increasing fitness and gaining confidence, I can run. My son enjoys this as I can now keep up with him and play football.
